How It All Started: The Journey from Gamer Memories to Movie Making

Updated: May 1

It all began when my friend Taras relocated to the USA. We had previously collaborated on numerous projects, and the synergy between our skills consistently led to remarkable outcomes. Despite this, I had no grand plans until one day, while we were driving to a video shoot, I shared with Taras my long-held desire to create a project infused with the nostalgic essence of the PlayStation One.

To my surprise, Taras became incredibly enthusiastic about the idea—far more than I had anticipated. On a personal note, I cherished watching old gameplay videos of classic titles like Silent Hill, Crash Bandicoot, and Dino Crisis 2. These games whisked me back to a time shrouded in mystery, when life seemed full of possibilities and I was merely eight years old. This made it incredibly easy for me to dive into new worlds.

Before long, Taras approached me with a thrilling proposal: a championship. He explained that a game streamer had initiated a challenge based on the premise that hidden within the PS1 games were coordinates that led to a rare collector's card. This idea instantly captured our imagination, and we began to develop it further.

We launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the project and brought on board a scriptwriter to help refine our narrative. Initially, I took on the task of writing the first few pages myself. However, I soon realized that achieving the depth and excitement we needed was beyond my solo capabilities. Thankfully, our scriptwriter, Connor Jaynes, proved invaluable, elevating our script to new heights.

As our project gained momentum, we assembled a dedicated team, scouted for and selected talented actors from New York, and chose the perfect locations for filming. We have completed the majority of the shooting, and the details of this exciting journey will be revealed in future articles. Thank you for taking the time to read this to the end. I hope you will enjoy our film as much as we enjoyed making it.
